The GuarDIAN reports : legal case brought over a maternal death linked to Covid-19

The Guardian reports on what is believed to be the first legal action against the Brazilian state over a maternal death linked to Covid-19.

After the End researchers Debora Diniz and Luciana Brito are behind the case of Lidiane, seeking to hold the Brazilian state accountable for maternal death due to Covid-19.

The lawsuit seeks compensation and a lifelong pension for her family, as well as formal recognition of the state’s responsibility for her death.

Debora coordinates a group at the University of Brasilia that carried out a qualitative study to understand why so many maternal deaths were occurring in Brazil.

The case raises many of the After the End project key issues, including care, care work, and when and for whom has the health emergency ended.
